Former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan has spoken out to the media following the decision by the WBA to grant the fighter a rematch against American Lamont Peterson after a split decision led to the British fighter losing both of his titles in a bout between the two in Washington DC on December 10th.
Following the loss of the fight, Khan’s promotion representitives, Golden Boy Promotions, have continuiously pushed for a review of the fight following what they called “a ple-thora of anomalies” that happened throughout the fight.
The WBA took note of the calls for a rematch and 25 year old Khan has now been told that he will get his chance to re-claim his titles after WBA vice president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza confirmed that there was grounds for concern within the fight and that Khan would be give the fight he wants within the next 180 days.
Khan revealed his happiness about the decision and told the media that “All we ask as sportsmen is for a fair and level playing field when we complete.”
There has been an investigation launched into the happenings during the fight last month as the IBF look to create a report of their findings, which will be certain to include the tale of the mystery man that was seen speaking to a judge during the fight and then later in the ring after the final split decision was made.
Khan will not be looking to allow the judge’s decision decide the fight when the two fighters meet in the ring for the rematch, Khan saying that he will be looking to prove that his is the best in the 140 pound division and will be working to “take care of business” when the rematch is announced.
