One of the biggest boxing fights in recent years has finally taken steps towards being scheduled and will see Floyd Mayweather Jr get into the ring to face Manny Pacquiao after the American turned to the media to give boxing fans exactly what they wanted to hear.
Mayweather Jr revealed that he was ready to give the boxing world the fight that they want to see, turning to social networking site Twitter to tweet “Manny Pacquiao i’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.”
The news that the fight now looks set to take place in early May will be music to the ears of both fans and Pacquiao as he has made no secret of his desire to stand toe to toe with Mayweather Jr in recent weeks.
The fight will see two fighters that are widely considered to be the best pound for pound fighters in the world and will become the first fight in history to be worth as much as $100 million in order to ensure that the world of boxing is given another of the fights that will be sure to make the history books and will be watched by millions.
Although the final confirmation of the fight is not announced officially as the contract needs to be agreed by both parties, the bout looks likely to go ahead as both fighters are sure that they can make a name for themselves when both men come to blows.
With the news that Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr are set to step into the ring together this year, the boxing world is becoming more and more excited about what else the year could hold for the sport, with talk of David Haye being thought to be ready to come out of retirement should he be given the chance to do so against one of the Klitschko brothers, having lost on points to Wladimir last year.
