Roach says Mayweather shouldn't call the shots
With the Manny Pacquaio vs Floyd Mayweather Jr fight now in the fight calendar, many boxing fans are looking forward to what could be the biggest fight in recent history, with reports showing that the bout could be the first fight to offer $100 million in fees in the history of the sport but it has emerged that not everyone is in favour of what promises to be a fight of epic proportion.
As part of the negotiations for the contract of the fight taking place, Pacquiao will be forced to take a drugs test to ensure that the fighter is not taking performance enhancing drugs in the build up to the fight, something that his trainer Freddie Roach has publically claimed should not be necessary, saying that the clause within the contract is “disappointing” to see being enforced.
There is no indication as to why Roach would speak out about the clause, nor is there any suspicion that the boxer is taking any drugs to improve his performance rate but the comments seem to have cast a shadow over the proceedings after the call for a battle between the two fighters, that have both been named as the best pound for pound fighters in the world, was finally answered by Mayweather Jr after weeks of uncertainty.
According to an interview that Roach had with Examiner.com, Roach said that he was saddened by the request that was made by Mayweather Jr, asking “Why do we have to go by the fighter’s [Mayweather] request? Why can’t we go by the commission rules?”
Although Roach made it clear that he was not scared of Pacquiao undergoing the blood tests to check for illegal substances, he has clearly questioned why Mayweather has given himself the empowerment to be able to become a “rule maker”, saying that he would be happy to go to any boxing commission to undertake any of the tests that they wanted to put the fighter through.
The build up for this fight is beginning already and with Bet365 offering attractive adds on both fighters it shows that they have no idea where to hold their bets, so betting early is strongly advised so that you can get some of the best rates on the internet.
Which of the duo do you think will be able to take the win and settle the argument of which fighter is better than the other?
